In 2020, the name was changed to DIH Ocean to better reflect that the DIH covered a broader specter of ocean industries. The hub was chosen to participate in the first business development program for DIHs, set up by DGConnect (2018), and became partner of the Horizon2020-DT2018-2020 project DIH World together with 26 others European DIHs (2020).
The hub was nominated as a European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) candidate by the Norwegian government in December 2020.
Early in 2021 the hub joined forced with two others Norwegian EDIH candidates expanding its focus to include the public sector, smart cities, and coastal regions.
Today the hub covers all sectors of ocean industries, both existing and emerging. This includes ocean energies (oil & gas, offshore wind, floating solar, geothermal), new materials, subsea mining, ocean infrastructure (bridges, underwater tunnels), food production, clean oceans, ocean data and tourism – in addition to smart cities, coastal regions and public sectors engaged in ocean development.
